Antonios Nestoras, Founder of the European Policy Innovation Council (EPIC), joined Euronews’ Brussels, My Love? to discuss one of the most pressing challenges for Europe in 2025: security.
With Poland now leading the EU Council under Donald Tusk, Nestoras welcomed Warsaw’s commitment to “make Europe strong again” and emphasized the urgency of a common European defence policy. He issued a stark challenge to EU leaders:
“If the EU cannot provide security, then what the hell are we doing here?”
The panel also debated the disruptive influence of Elon Musk in European politics, but Nestoras brought the conversation back to Europe’s deeper security challenges. He argued that external shocks—particularly Donald Trump’s approach to NATO—have forced Europe to finally take its own security seriously:
“Trump is the best thing that happened to Europe. He is forcing us to come closer together, to finally build a common defence policy and provide security.”
As the EU navigates an increasingly volatile global landscape, Nestoras’ intervention made clear that the time for hesitation is over: Europe must step up and take control of its own security future.
