Antonios Nestoras, Founder of the European Policy Innovation Council (EPIC), joined TVP World to address the pressing issue of migration being weaponized against Europe and to propose a concrete solution: the creation of a European migrant visa.
With reports of Russia and Belarus using migrants to pressure Poland and destabilize EU borders, Nestoras warned against treating this as a typical migratory phenomenon:
“Migration is being used as a weapon. This is not comparable to a naturally occurring movement of people. It would be like comparing a thunder strike to a missile strike.”
While securing Europe’s borders is crucial, Nestoras emphasized that defence alone is not enough. His proposal for an EU-wide migrant visa aims to mitigate the consequences of illegal crossings, prevent hostile actors from exploiting migration, and address the EU’s urgent need for skilled labour.
As European leaders grapple with balancing security and humanitarian responsibilities, Nestoras’ intervention highlights the need for a structured, strategic approach to migration—one that strengthens Europe rather than leaving it vulnerable to external manipulation.
